Mango Tree
For those who like to cross the borders of the every day and ordinary, Mango Tree offers you a truly Thai experience.
Here Thai food is not only consumed for nourishment or to satisfy one's hunger but rather as a form of art, a topic of conversation, a source of pleasure and a reason to enjoy the company of others.Like any artistic creation, great cuisine comes from the heart and is fuelled by passion. At its best, it offers a feast for the senses that thrills and delights!
The décor is plush and sophisticated with eye-catching flower arrangements.
So my dining partners and I begin our journey with Som Tum (v), green papaya salad with cherry tomato, snake beans, peanut and spicy lime sauce; Tom Yum Gai, the famous hot and sour chicken soup with oyster mushrooms; Tod Mun Pla, spicy fish cakes seasoned with curry and kaffir lime leaf served with sweet and spicy sauce and lastly Satay Nuer Luam Mid, mixed skewers of chicken, lamb and beef served with satay peanut sauce.
For main courses, a wide range of dishes are on offer, from traditional Thai stir fries, to the more spicy curries, to fish dishes. And, while the restaurant is not kosher, there are many vegetarian dishes to tempt your palate.
A few favourites are Pla Pow, a fillet of sea bass wrapped in banana leaves on a cress salad with spicy lime and tamarind; Pad Pak Sai Med Mamvang, stir-fried mixed vegetables with cashew nuts; Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai, green curry with corn-fed chicken and Nuer Pad Nam Man Hoi, stir-fried sirloin beef fillet with ginger, garlic and spicy soy sauce.
All meals are cooked using natural and traditional herbs and spices with each dish being prepared with care, skill and precision.
And so to dessert. Cheese cake Lychee Ma-now, lychee and lime flavoured cheese cake with lychee jelly; Ponlamai Ruam Mit, seasonal exotic fruit platter with mango sauce and Guay Ob Ma Prow Sod, layered caramelised banana and coconut pudding with caramel sauce and banana ice cream. The perfect end to a perfect meal.
The food is beautifully presented and tastes as good as it looks. Authenticity is the key.
