Masters Review - Week 10

Jeremy Silverstone - Sunday 9th 2008f November 2008

Division one leaders Raiders A lost their first game of the season, while there are new leaders in division two.

Division One
On a dramatic day in the Maccabi Masters League, the seemingly irresistible force that was North London Raiders finally hit an immovable object as they went down 4-0 to last year's double winners, Brady A, with a Laurence Beck double, Scott Ansher and Marc Herman obliterating Raiders' unbeaten record and prompting Brady's manager Danny Collins to proclaim that "We're back! And we're not giving up our title without a fight!"

Bottom-of-the-table Temple Fortune A looked to be on course for their first win of the season as a Martin Seifert hat-trick put them 3-0 up against Faithfold at the break, but a second half comeback saw Mark Klinger, Adam Lustigman's penalty, and Stephen Benson earn a point for Faithfold.

Division Two
There are new leaders in division two as Clayhall A beat stablemates Clayhall B 9-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Brian Deal, two each from Neil Sapler and Matthew Noble, with Mark Goldman and Nigel Gladstein to take over from Norstar at the top. The B-team scorers were Michael Kushner, guest Bruce Brent and Tony Sharman.

The anticipated battle between Glenthorne B and Lions B lived up to expectations, an epic match ending 3-3. Gary Swerner scored twice to put Glenthorne ahead, but two strikes from Immanuel Ezekiel and guest Phil Silver put Lions back in the driving seat, until a Ray Russell penalty levelled it up.

And Pel City continued their good run with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Brady B, featuring a hat-trick from Andrew Cohen, a 30-yard free-kick from Spencer Brookner, plus a strike from Eddie Saleh. Gary Field notched Brady's consolation from the spot.
