Pinner JFC - Round-Up 16/11/08
Sunday saw another busy day of action for Pinner's various teams...
Seniors - Away to East London Knights (MSFL Division 4): Lost 3-1.The Seniors started well and were controlling the game keeping Norstar at bay in their own half. But with twenty minutes gone Norstar pushed forward with one of their few chances and whipped in a ball from right to be headed home.
The blues lost concentration and not least due to two early substitutions that Manager Les Conway was forced to make. Josh Sasto due to a recurring shoulder injury and Marc Benamram with a calf problem.
Being unsettled by the changes and just before half time, the blues conceded a sloppy second.
The second period saw a much more spirited display from the blues who squeezed the play in the midfield and gained control again. With fifteen minutes remaining, the blues pulled a well deserved goal back with an initial save that was spilt by the Norstar keeper for Jon Kay to poach and hammer into the net from close range in total Michael Owenesk style.
Five minutes later and with a decision not given against Norstar for a blatant push against blues centre back Rob Mindell, they extended their lead further.
But with two minutes remaining with young Alex Sherr on a run towards goal where he was tackled from behind, only a free kick was awarded by the Referee which was a clear penalty. Regardless, he failed to even caution the opposing player despite the fact that he had clearly awarded it as a foul.
Undoubtedly, the blues need to start converting their chances and to which they had four or five in the second half alone.
Under 16s - Home to Tornados JSC (WFL Yellow Division): Lost 2-3.
With the 16s having nearly all of the possession in the first half, they went a goal down against the run of play. The Tornado's keeper made several spectacular saves but they remained one up at half time
The second half saw some great individual skill from Matt Lubel who pulled a goal back to level. Then with a fine shot, which was well covered by the blues keeper Jack Shulton it took a wicked deflection and Tornados restored their lead.
Soon after, they added a third to make in an uphill battle for the blues. But from a set piece into the box, Alex Trup volleyed in for his first goal of the season.
Despite continuous pressure in the latter stages of the game Pinner could not get level.
Man of the Match - Alex Trup
Under 15s - Home to St. Albans Rangers (WFL Yellow Division): Won 5-2.
Under 14s - Away to Panathinaikos Youth White (WFL Yellow Division): Won 4-1.
This was a great team performance from the 14s picking up their first away win of the season and third on the spin.
Following a very well taken opener from Kaveer Patel in the first half, a hat-trick from James Smyth sealed the victory.
Had it not been for some great saves from the Panathinaikos keeper, it could have been more.
And having scored three in the first half, the blues played more fluent attacking football in the second period albeit with only a single goal to show for it.
Under 12s - Home to Everett Rovers Green (WFL Yellow Division): Lost 4-6.
