Snow Need To Worry

As a second week of snow threatens to cause another complete wipe-out of the Maccabi Jewish football programme - prompting fears of a fixture backlog - league chairman David Wolff is urging players not to panic.

Last week's wintry conditions put pay to the entire Maccabi Southern Football League programme, along with all fixtures in the Maccabi Junior Football League and Masters League. Wingate & Finchley saw their Ryman Premier League Division One North league match against Lewes called off, while both London Maccabi Lions games also saw their Spartans South Midlands Football League games postponed.

But with the weather forecast predicting more of the same for this weekend, Wolff is refusing to panic.

He told the Jewish News: "It's unfortunate and frustrating but there's nothing we can do about it.

"We live in a climate where this type of weather occurs, all we can do is take it on the chin and review the situation week by week.

"Up until last week, we've been lucky in the sense that we haven't suffered with the weather. Once the cold snap is over, we will then have to reassess - and possibly readjust. Right now there are no contingency plans set, we just have to wait and see."

A full fixture list is planned for this week, including the opening round of ties in the Barry Goldstein Trophy - a competition which in recent seasons has been cancelled due to fixture pile-ups - caused by bad weather. Bookmark and Share
