Israel U17 Cricket Team Finish Fourth


Israel's U17 cricket team recorded a fourth place finish in last week's 10-nation European Second Division Championships, which were held in Germany.

The week saw the Israeli's claim a superb win over the hosts in their opening game, beat both the Isle of Man and France, before losing to Italy, and then suffering a five-run defeat to Spain.

Their campaign got off to a flier when they beat the Germans by virtue of having lost two less wickets, after both sides finished on the same score. The game also saw them play with just ten men as three of the squad were fasting for Tisha B'Av. Itamir Kehimkar's 52 not out played a big part in their win, as did Gil Nojman's 3-5 bowling figures.

To cap off a fine week, Israel skipper Gabi Schachat was named Player of the Tournament for his efforts of 182 runs at 45.50, as well as taking seven wickets, whilst three Israelis were also named amongst the top ten wicket takers.
