Shahar Peer crashed out of the US Open in disappointing fashion on Monday evening against unseeded Chinese player Na Li.

All seemed to be going well for the 24th seed as she looked in control of the match, taking the first set 6-2.

However, the match then swung towards her opponent as she lost the second set 0-6, before losing the third set - and match - 6-1.

As a result, Israel's only other interest in the singles relies on Dudi Sela in the men's competition. He does though face a daunting task on Tuesday when he takes on the fifth seed; Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

Peer is though still involved in action at Flushing Meadows as she will be competing in the women's doubles competition later this week. Teamong up with Belarussian Victoria Azarenka, the pair ranked sixth will meet Russian Nadia Petrova and Italian Francesca Schiavone in their first round match.

Israel's best hopes of a win will once more come from the men's doubles pairing of Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich. Having suffered a disappointing first round exit at the Olympics earlier in the month, they'll be looking for a better display in New York, their first round match being up against USA's Robert Kendrick and Ryan Sweeting.

Ram is also scheduled to take part in the mixed doubles.
